PM Modi holds a meeting with UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Saab

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had a meeting with UK Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab on Wednesday where the main point of discussion was India-UK partnership in the post Covid and post-Brexit world.

Modi took to Twitter to write about the meeting. He tweeted, “Excellent meeting with @DominicRaab, UK Secretary of State of @FCDOGovUK (Foreign, Commonwealth, & Development Office). Discussed the vast potential of India-UK partnership in the post COVID, post-Brexit world. Looking forward to next month’s visit by PM @BorisJohnson as Chief guest at our Republic Day celebrations.”

Raab also had a meeting with Union Education Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank and also had a discussion with Union Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Prakash Javadekar, where he iterated about UK being closely involved with India to battle climate change on Tuesday.

Raab on Tuesday also met External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, where their discussion revolved around post-Covid and post-Brexit world pertaining to stronger India-UK partnership.

Raab stated, issuing a joint statement, “We want to deepen our economic partnership — we already have a strong trade relationship. In the year before the pandemic hit, bilateral trade between the India and UK grew at a vibrant 11 percent. Now what we want to do is to take that to another level– working towards a green and enhanced trade partnership.”

Raab further added, “We are committed to building a stronger defence and security partnership with our Indian friends that will help us tackle shared issues of concerns whether it is terrorism , maritime security and including piracy in the Western Indian Ocean.”

Raab’s visit, as highlighted by the External Affairs Ministry is carving the road for further strengthening partnership around trade, defence, climate, education, migration, mobility and health sectors pertaining to post-Covid and post-Brexit era.
