PM Modi talks about climate change to be a priority at virtual summit with Sweden

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had an interaction with Swedish counterpart Stefen Lofven amid a virtual summit on Friday where both the leaders had a discussion about bilateral ties and further called for collaboration and  cooperation on climate change.

Modi highlighted the achievements of India in the power sector, saying, “India’s renewable power capability has increased by 162% in the last five years.” He further mentioned about India being the only country among the G20 to adhere to the commitment given.

By citing an example, Modi said, “By promoting the use of LED lights, we are saving 38 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions. Modi told the summit that India has set a target of installing 450 GW of renewable energy by 2030.”

Modi also spoke about the role played by India during the fight with Covid-19 pandemic. He said, “We have also provided ‘Made in India’ vaccines to about 50 countries so far,” further adding that India is dedicated towards supply of Covid-19 vaccines to more countries in the upcoming days and weeks.

During his address, Modi also spoke about the attack incident on the Swedish city of Vetlanda in Wednesday. He told Lofven, “Those injured in the attack will be fully recovered soon, this is our wish.”

This was the fifth interaction amid the two countries starting 2015. Both the countries have priorly met amid the UN General Assembly in September 2015, April 2020.
