As the nation marks the fifth Ayurveda Day on Friday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has geared up for contributing two Ayurveda institutions for the country – which comprises of Institute of Teaching and Research in Ayurveda (ITRA) based in Jamnagar and the Nationla Institute of Ayurveda (NIA) based in Jaipur. The dedicated institutions are the country’s most prestigious institutions for Ayurveda.
ITRA has been granted the status of an Institution of National Importance (INI) according to the Parliament and NIA has been granted the status of deemed to be a university by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The Ayurveda Day is commemorated on the occasion of Dhanwantri Jayanti or commonly known as Dhanteras by the Ministry of Ayush (Ayurveda, Yoga and naturopathy, unani, Siddha and Homeopathy from 2016. This year, the date accounts on November 13.
As the world is hit by Covid-19 pandemic, the event will be celebrated exclusively on the virtual platforms.
ITRA is an Ayurveda institute having 12 departments with three clinical laboratories and three research laboratories. Currently,with on-going 33 research projects, ITRA is the research leader for traditional medicine systems. ITRA is the conglomeration of four institutes inclined towards Ayurveda research based in Gujarat Ayurveda University campus, Jamnagar.
NIA received the deemed-to-be university status which is helping in providing extensive contribution with respect to preservation, promotion and advancing of Ayurveda over the last few decades. With 14 departments, NIA has various courses in Ayurveda ranging from regular certification to doctorate level. Currently, NIA has 54 different research projects.
