PM Modi to lead the all-party meeting to present govt’s agenda for Budget Session

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be chairing an-all party meeting scheduled for Saturday to present the legislative agenda of the government for the Budget Session of the Parliament.

For the current year, the customary all-party meeting has been planned to be conducted prior to the session. The Budget session commenced on Friday, with President Ram Nath Kovind giving an address to the joint sitting comprising of both the Houses of the Parliament.

In a regular pattern, the all-party meetings are conducted in latter days of the parliamentary sessions which will assure smooth functioning of both the Houses.

In the virtual meeting, the Opposition parties will be raising the debate about the farmers agitation along the borders of New Delhi demanding for revoking the laws.

The Opposition parties had put forth their demand at the all-party meeting convention held by Lok Sabha speaker Om Birla on Friday, however, the government gave the suggestion that the subject of the farmers’ and the agricultural laws can be discussed during the debate on Motion of Thanks to the President’s address, for which a period of 10 hours has been assigned in Lok Sabha on the dates scheduled as February 2, 3 and 4.

With the the ongoing pandemic of Covid-19, the Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha have been meeting for five hours each, a move which will assure social distancing. Though Rajya Sabha has a meeting in the morning hours, the Lok Sabha has meetings scheduled for the second half of the day.
