Prime Minister Narendra Modi introduced the second phase of the RuPay card in Bhutan on Friday along with the Bhutan counterpart Lotay Tshering. While the launching ceremony, PM Modi revealed the RuPay cards are promulgated by the Bhutan National Bank. The cards can be used to withdraw for Rs. 1 lakh to Rs. 20 lakh from the ATMs at point-of sale terminals.
Modi said, “This would make tourism, shopping and other transactions easier for Bhutanese tourists in India.” Expressing his joy, Narendra Modi said, “I’m happy to know that there have been 11,000 successful Rupay transactions in Bhutan already. Had Covid not happened, this number would have been much higher. We are launching the Phase II of the RuPay Card scheme.”
During the launch event, Modi also talked regarding the framework formalized by Bhutan and India jointly with respect to the peaceful utilization of the space and also emphasized on the enhanced boost in the India-Bhutan relations.
PM Modi said, “Recently, India and Bhutan signed a framework for Peaceful Usage of Outer Space. This will help institutions in both countries and improve cooperation. India has recently opened its space sector for private enterprises. This will promote capacity, innovation and skills.”
