Union Minister for Environment, Forest and Climate Change, Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday conducted a meeting with John Kerry, US Special Presidential Envoy for climate and had a discussion over a range of issues which comprises of climate, finance, joint research and collaboration.
Post the meeting, Javadekar tweeted, “Had an engaging and fruitful discussion with Mr. @JohnKerry, Special Presidential Envoy for Climate. We discussed a range of issues including #ClimateFrance, joint research and collaboration etc.”
John Kerry is on a visit to India as a part of the Asian tour regarding consultation for increasing climate ambition prior to US President Joe Biden headed Leaders Summit on Climate.
Kerry is the second top official representing the Biden administration of the US to be visiting India. US Defence Secretary Lloyd Austin had visited New Delhi in the month of March.
Biden has sent an invite to 40 world leaders which also constitutes of Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the virtual summit to be conducted later in April.
The US Embassy has released a statement, “As one of the world’s largest economies and a global leader in science and innovation, India is a critical a part of the solution to the climate crisis. We see India as an important partner on future clean energy research, development, and deployment, not least because of their successful domestic agenda in this area.”
