The Rajya Sabha on Sunday approved and passed the two key agricultural reform bills, which have been subjected to opposition by the farm groups. Even the opposition part has protested against the legislations and stormed the well of the House.

Members from Trinamool Congress and the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam were observed tearing documents, quite possibly reports or rule book. They also rushed to the chairman to register their plea against the approved bills.

The opposition parties created all the havoc which led the ruling party BJP to urge for action over the members violating the rules.

The Lok Sabha passed the Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020 and The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 on Thursday via a majority voice vote.

In Rajya Sabha, opposition members urged the bills to be sent for further scrutiny to a select committee. The legislations were introduced in House by the agriculture minister Narendra Singh Tomar, “The two bills are historic and will bring a change in the lives of the farmers. The farmers will be able to freely trade their produce anywhere in the country.”

The bill has aroused protests from numerous groups and farmers organizations, such as Bharatiya Kisan Union and the Umbrella All-India Kisan Sangharsh Coordination Committee.

With reference to the move, Congress MP Jairam Ramesh tweeted, “The dictatorial attitude of the Chair in not wanting to get a sense of the House, which is the convention to extend the session beyond the scheduled 1 pm, led to bedlam & chaos. The anti-farmer Bills were passed in the din without voting. Why the tearing urgency? On whose orders?”
