Mottley has written a letter expressing thanks to India on February 4, addressed to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The letter read, “On behalf of my government and people, I wish you to express gratitude to you, your government and the people of the Republic of India for most generous donation of the Covishield vaccine (under the auspices of Oxford AstraZeneca).”

The assistance from India to Barbados comes after the request by PM Mottley to PM Modi for the contribution of the Indian vaccine for the Caribbean country.

In her letter, Mia Amor Mottley wrote, “The Minister of Health and Wellness and the Chief Medical Officer both have confirmed that the vaccine has been approved for use in Barbados and will be administered in accordance with the manufacturers’ guidelines.”

India, is doing rounds with ‘Neighbourhood First’ Policy and has sent vaccines to the countries like Myanmar, Nepal, Bangladesh, Seychelles, Sri Lanka, Bhuta, Maldives, Bahrain and Mauritius as a gift earlier. Overall, a count of 152 countries has asked India’s assistance for supply of vaccine against the deadly Coronavirus.
