The train services in Amritsar will be restarting post the farm unions on Thursday have taken a call to suspend their dharna of 169 days on tracks as they will return citing the forthcoming wheat harvest season.
In conversation with news agency ANI, Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar, Gurpreet Singh Khaira said, “Dharna at Jandiala Guru Railway Station suspended for the time being and passenger trains operational now.”
A group of farmers were found sitting near the railway tracks in close vicinity to the Amritsar station protesting against the three contentious farm laws passed by the Centre in September.
Farmers from different parts of the country have been protesting since November 26 against the three farm laws passed by the Centre which include Farmers’ Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020’ The Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act 2020 and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
