Alok Sharma, the United Kingdom’s minister in-charge of the United Nations Climate Change Conference 2021 or COP26 has reached India on Monday for having a discussion with interlocutors and captains of industry over strengthening the bilateral partnership adhering to climate change.
This is the first visit of Alok Sharma to Asia after taking up the position. Amid his two-day tour, Sharma is scheduled to have meetings with senior ministers, business leaders, and civil society for discussion about climate issues and further prepare for the COP26 summit planned for November.
Sharma’s visit anticipates to highlight India’s progress in climate action and clean energy transition. India’s expertise is ” expected to be of great value to global discussions on a clean energy transition as part of COP preparations” revealed the British High Commission in a statement.
Amid his scheduled meetings, Alok will put forth the available opportunities scaling within the low carbon economy domain and also about the present commitments for acquiring net zero emissions and push forth the businesses for promoting the rising movement of corporate climate action across the sector and supply chain.
Alok Sharma will also have meetings with young experts and innovative thinkers for brainstorming the issues on climate change and how to resolve them.
The statement said, “After a year of virtual meetings, the in-person visit signals a step-change in momentum to COP26 preparations, and reinforces Mr Sharma’s ambition to run an inclusive negotiating process that incorporates the views of all countries.”
“When it comes to climate action, India is a key partner and a global leader. Together we can make change happen – delivering real progress on reducing emissions and building global commitments. The UK and India are already a joint force for good against climate change, and we look forward to strengthening this partnership in the run up to COP26 and beyond,” Sharma MP revealed.
Sharma is the third minister from UK to have a visit to India since December.
