UPS, FedEx collaborated with Pfizer-BioNTech for shipping the Covid-19 vaccines in US

Rival US companies UPS and FedEx are collaborating with Pfizer-BioNTech side-by-side to distribute the Covid-19 vaccines, post its approval for emergency use authorization by US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) on Friday.

According to New York Times, the two shipping companies revealed that they had curated the action plan for months and presented it as the vaccine received emergency authorization approval.

General Gustave F Perna, the chief operating officer of Operation Warp Speed, said at a news conference on Friday that the boxes were being ready at the Pfizer plant in Michigan, and will be transported to UPS and FedX distribution hubs, and will circulated to 636 locations across the country. Perna indicated that 145 sites will be getting the vaccine on Monday, 425 on Tuesday and as many as 66 on Wednesday.

“This is the moment we’ve been waiting for.. We’ve been planning for months with daily calls, drilling down to really quite minute details,” stated Wes Wheeler, the president of the health care division, UPS.

 Richard Smith, FedEx executive said on Thursday, “You have two fierce rivals here, and competitors, in FedEx and UPS, who literally are teaming up to get this delivered.”

According to New York Times, both the companies are prioritizing the packages which will be closely monitored and have a tracking device.

FDA Commissioner Stephen M. Hahn, said, “The FDA’s authorization for emergency use of the first Covid-19 is a significant milestone in battling this devastating pandemic that has affected so many families in the United States and around the world.”
