Vaccination to be accelerated in Bengaluru, daily target of Karnataka set for 1.5 lakh

Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagere Palike (BBMP) Commissioner N Manjunatha Prasad had issued instructions to the health officers to accelerate the Covid-19 vaccination drive along with increasing the testing for keeping up to check on the surge in the Covid-19 cases. While speaking at the virtual meetings to the health officers, Prasad revealed that the government had released a circular for accelerating the vaccinating drive for Primary Health Centres along with private hospitals too.

Prasad added that the new phase of the vaccination drive will commence on the occasion of International Women’s Day, BBMP will be taking steps to establish pink booths for vaccination drive which is specifically for women.

Health Minister Dr K Sudhakar revealed the drive will be conducted at around 3,000 centres which comprises of Primary Health Centres, Taluk Hospitals and District Hospitals over from March 8, and the regular target is for vaccination of 1.5 lakh people on a daily basis. On Saturday, Sudhakar had a meeting for assessing the Covid-19 situation and current status of vaccination drive in Karnataka.

It was further reported that about 200-250 cases were registered in BBMP limits on a daily basis, which has surged to 400 on Saturday. Sudhakar revealed that 12 clusters were detected in BBMP limits and the testing will be raised to 40,000 daily from the present count of 30,000. He said that contact tracing will also be made more efficient and the Centre has issued an order to trace 20 primary and secondary contacts adhering to each positive case.

The minister said the 20 traced contacts will be subjected to Covid-19 test. Mentioning about the spike in Kerala and Maharashtra, he said along with stringent measures along with borders, restrictions over crowd gathering.

Yediyurappa will conduct a video conference with district administrations for districts with high cases, he added.
