Yelahanka to have 100-bed Covid-19 hospital powered with solar energy

A 100-bed Covid-19 hospital powered with solar energy will be instituted in Yelahanka, Bengaluru in a few days, as a measure to boost the health infrastructure of the city for the upcoming anticipated third wave of Covid-19.

Union Minister DV Sadananada Gowda will be launching the hospital on Saturday. An NGO known as Doctors For You, in collaboration with other partners Boeing Defence India Pvt Ltd, Selco Foundation, and KPCL have developed this hospital jointly.

According to the official sources, the heat stress-resilient, solar energy-driven, and easy-to-replicate model was established in a period of 21 days.

The Covid-19 facility will comprise of 10 ICU beds, 20 HDU beds structured with modern equipment, and 70 oxygenated beds. An official from Selco Foundation said, “The building materials have been chosen to maximise the thermal comfort for patients and hospital staff. The KPCL premises in Yelahanka was chosen for this because of the availability of land and proximity to an existing oxygen generation plant.”

President of Boeing Defence India, Salil Gupte said it was quite impressive that the Covid-19 facility was built in such a short span of 21 days.

Founder of Doctors For You, Dr. Ravikant Singh commented, “We urgently needed to build additional beds for Covid patients. That is when we started with Selco to construct this at Yelahanka.”
