As India and Bangladesh are inching towards celebrating 50th anniversary of the Liberation War of 1971, which led to the creation of a new country called Bangladesh, India on Thursday revealed the year 2021 will be a historic year for Bangladesh-India bilateral relations.

While addressing a virtual briefing, Anurag Srivastava, spokesperson of Ministry of External Affairs, stated, “India and Bangladesh are commemorating 50 years of diplomatic ties this year, and the tri-services contingent from Bangladesh is visiting India at the invitation of the government to participate in Republic Day Parade. This is a testimony to our ties, which are forged, shared and sacrificed. Now this year 2021 will also be historic in our bilateral relations as we are also commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation War.”

Srivastava also recalled and spoke about the virtual summit conducted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Bangladeshi counterpart Sheikh Hasina, where they had mutually agreed that both the nations would jointly organize several activities for together celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation War in India and Bangladesh along with Republic Day.

As a display of respect to India, the Bangladesh Tri-service marching contingent and the ceremonial band will be participating in the upcoming Republic day parade held at Rajpath in New Delhi. The contingent of 122 proud soldiers of the Bangladesh Armed Forces, departed for India by a specially passed aircraft IAF C-17 aircraft. The contingent will be participating in the Republic Day Parade held in New Delhi on January 26, 2021.
