A top official from the Union Territory administration posted a tweet on Friday declaring that the 4G services to be resumed in Jammu and Kashmir. The high-speed internet connected was subjected to a ban as the Article 370 was abrogated, thereby revoking the status of a special state. On August 5, 2019, the state of Jammu and Kashmir was declared to be a union territory henceforth. The internet ban on 4G was imposed for restraining the high-speed services, however 2G was given for some areas but 4G was not restored.

In a tweet, Rohit Kansal, J&K Principal Secretary(power and information) revealed the news about restoring the 4G internet services in Jammu and Kashmir.

Last year, in August 2020, the J&K Administration implemented the decision of resuming the high-speed services for certain districts in the initial phase, which started with Ganderbal and Udhampur districts.

The Centre had revealed to the Supreme Court about the held ban to continue in April 2020, citing the militancy in Jammu and Kashmir.

Omar Abdullah, National Conference Leader took to Twitter to express his joy about restoration of the 4G services. He tweeted, “Better late than never.”

On August 4, 2019, the internet shutdown was enforced as a preventive measure. Initially, the landlines were restored in Jammu and Kashmir, after which on January 25, 2020, 2G services were resumed, however was applicable only for verified users, following which 2G internet on verified SIMs was enforced from March 4, 2020.
