5 states responsible for over 71 per cent of India’s Covid-19 tally: Health Ministry

The Union Health Ministry has released a list on Wednesday which consists of five states consistently recording a higher number of Coronavirus cases. Th ministry revealed the five states – Maharashtra, Punjab, Karnataka, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu have high number of cases but also add up to 71 per cent of the new 28, 903 cases recorded in the country as of Wednesday morning.

Maharashtra recorded 17,684 cases over a period of last 24 hours adding up to 61 per cent of the cases, after which Kerala takes the lead with 1970 cases followed by Punjab with 1,463 Covid-19 cases in last 24 hours.

Overall, the total cases of the country account to over 2.34 lakh as it recorded 28,903 cases, which takes the active cases as 2.05 per cent of the total cases in the country.

The three states that add up to most of the cases, almost 76 per cent of the active caseload – which is by Maharashtra, Kerala and Punjab. Maharashtra as the highest which takes over 60 per cent of the tally, as per the health ministry. The report, also mentions about a decline over last one month for Kerala.

The five key districts in Maharashtra having the most number of cases are Pune, Nagpur, Mumbai, Aurangabad and Thane. For the state of Kerala, the top five districts contributing to the cases are Pathanamthitta, Kannur, Ernakulam, Palakkad and Thrissur. For Punjab, the district with highest active cases are Jalandhar, Hoshirapur, SAS Nagar, Ludhiana and Patiala. For now, Maharashtra’s three districts have gone on a lockdown, and several cities of Gujarat have imposed a night curfew along with Punjab.
