Hathras rape victim case updates: CBI team interrogates cop in Hathras, investigates crime spot of rape

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) officials and forensic experts team investigated the crime spot at Uttar Pradesh’s Hathras, the location where a 19-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly gang-raped in September. Along with the investigators, the girl’s brother was present at the crime scene.

The CBI has filed a case against the main accused, Sandip Singh, who and three more upper caste men, involved in the alleged gang-rape are in jail presently. The girl gave the names of the accused men on September 29, shortly after which she succumbed to death.

After the persistent recommendations of Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the CBI took up the case with a notification issued from the Centre. The CBI officials have now received all the documents pertaining to the case.

On Monday, the girl’s parents and two brothers were brought before the Lucknow bench of the Allahabad court. Their demand was to shift the case beyond the state, put up by Seema Kushwaha, the lawyer who fought Nirbhaya’s case.

The court convicted the forced cremation by the UP police officers on September 30, which had led to protests throughout the country. The girl was cremated without the consent or will of her family. But, the police officers have refuted the allegations. The next hearing for the case is scheduled on November 2.

Meanwhile, it has been reported that the victim’s mother had health issues and is admitted to the hospital. The father, also is unwell, but refused to go to the hospital.
