Apollo Hospital in Bengaluru will be under the eight hospitals in the country where the Covid-19 tests for diagnosis will be based on gene editing tool, which will be available for few weeks.
The test, manufactured by the government run-Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology will provide for the results right in 45 minutes. A spokesperson of the Apollo Hospitals stated, “Since this is a new technology, training will be conducted for technicians and clinicians.. We expect the commencement of services in the first week of December.”
The charges for the test will be as per the standard charges fixed by the state government for the RT-PCR tests.
Dr C N Manjunatha, the nodal officer for Covid-19 testing stated, “Many Bengaluru hospitals use rapid RT-PCR tests. The Abbott ID NOW Covid-19 test takes five minutes to determine a positive result and 13 minutes for a negative result.”
“It is a boon in emergency situations,” he further added.
