Karnataka govt prepares to cut down summer vacation for schools

Karnataka government’s Primary and Secondary Education Department is deliberating on cutting down the summer vacation with the intent of compensating for the academic days lost due to Covid-19 pandemic induced lockdown.

The government’s decision is completely supported by the teachers’ associations.

The Karnataka’s technical committee created for Covid-19 management has given the recommendation to the education department to shorten the summer vacation and the department is preparing to enforce the same across the state.

According to the official sources, the issue will be put forth for a discussion with B S Yediyurappa at the meeting planned for December end.

“Usually, vacations are given to kids to relax. But considering the current situation, we will support any decision taken by the government,” said V M Narayana Swamy, President, State primary school’s association. Alongside, some of the teachers have given a contrary opinion of providing a minimum of 15 to 20 days holidays to the teachers to give them a break from the extreme anxiety of online education.
