The statement released on Saturday says, “The cases are a couple from Durham with no travel history, exposure or high-risk contacts. As per the official release, Dr Barbara Yaffe, Ontario’s Associate Chief Medical Officer of Health announced about the two cases of the new Covid-19 strain on Saturday.

The provincial authorities stated, “With inbound international travel, it is not unexpected to have identified the new variant in Ontario. Ontario is the first province to identify this variant thanks to the proactive work of the Public Health Ontario Laboratory.”

Dr Yaffe stated that Ontarians must abide by the required protocols and shutdown measures, effectively commencing from Saturday 12.01 am local time, as the local authorities look into the on-going investigation of the new Covid-19 cases.

Yaffe stated, “Durham Region Health Department has conducted case and contact investigation and Ontario is working in collaboration with our federal counterparts at the Public Health Agency of Canada. “
