Sudden rainfall brings relief from heat in Bengaluru

Several regions of Bengaluru experienced light to moderate rainfall coupled with thunderstorm on Friday evening, giving the city residents a relief from the scorching heat.

The cloudy weather amid the daytime triggered the evening rainfall. However, the sudden rainfall led to flash floods in low-lying regions such as Gandhinagar, Corporation Circle, Vijayanagar, Chamarajpet, Rajajinagar, Vidyanarayanpura, Peenya, Yeshwanthpur, Jalahalli, Mahalakshmi layout, Malleswaram, Banashankari, RR Nagar and Kathriguppe.

As per the data released by the officials at the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Cell (KSNDMC), the Maruti Mandira ward, in the vicinity of Vijayanagar, with rainfall of 28 mm as of 10 pm.

Certain roads were drowning under two feet of rainwater and on several roads, vehicle users had to evade away through muddy waters.

A sudden trouble

The evening shower created a sudden trouble to the regular commuters, as those returning from work or college were stuck on the streets. Alongside, the slow-moving vehicles had invoke an hour long traffic jam on a number of busy roads.

The officials from Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike (BBMP) revealed the zonal-level workers took the step of clearing the clogged shoulder drains throughout the streets which were flooded and also created several passages for draining the rainwater.
