PM Modi assesses the impact of cyclone Yaas, instructs the agencies to assure restoration of normal life soon

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday recommended the concerned agencies to assure normal life is restored in the affected regions as soon as possible after the destruction caused by cyclone Yaas in West Bengal and Odisha.

During a review meeting, PM Modi made a note of the effective and proactive role played by the Central and state agencies in tackling the challenges induced by the cyclone and suggested the agencies to assure that normal life is restored in the regions affected as soon as possible and the relief measures are appropriately initiated towards the people impacted by the cyclone, as per the official release.

The officials attending the meeting gave a comprehensive presentation elaborating on several aspects of preparedness, assessment of damages and associated issues.

In the meeting, the discussion was also regarding the 106 teams of the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) allotted with 46 teams each for Odisha and West Bengal, who in their rescue mission saved over 1,000 lives and removed over 2,500 trees/poles already fallen and blocking the roadways.

The officials in the meeting revealed the telecom services are operational again in the affected regions.

The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, Cabinet Secretary, Home Secretary, Secretary Power along with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) Director General and other important officials.
