New Delhi: Popular social media platforms WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram faced a global outage late Wednesday night, leaving thousands of users unable to access their accounts and interrupting communication and social media activities.
Meta, the parent company of these platforms, acknowledged the technical issue and stated that efforts were underway to resolve it. According to the outage tracking website DownDetector, over 50,000 Facebook users reported issues such as logging in, uploading posts, and refreshing existing content around 11 PM IST. Instagram also experienced downtime, affecting over 23,000 users, many of whom were unable to access or update their posts.
Messages, posts, and updates were either delayed or completely inaccessible to many users. The outage impacted both desktop and mobile versions of the platforms. However, some users reported being able to access WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram through desktop versions on their computers.
In a statement on X (formerly Twitter), Meta said, “We are aware of the global outage and are working to restore WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram. We understand that a technical issue is affecting the ability of some users to access our applications.
