New Delhi: The “One Nation, One Election” bill, which aims to allow simultaneous Lok Sabha and state assembly elections across the country, was presented in the Lok Sabha today, as promised by BJP in their election manifesto.
Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal presented the Constitution (121st Amendment) Bill, 2024, and the Bill to amend laws concerning the Union Territories in the Lok Sabha today.
Following the presentation of the bill, members of the INDIA alliance strongly opposed it. Congress MP Manish Tiwari remarked, “How can the terms of both the center and the states be synchronized simultaneously? India is a federal country; such centralization is wrong. This is an anti-Constitutional amendment.”
“All states have their own diversity. The federal system was designed keeping this in mind. It was not possible to conduct simultaneous assembly elections in a few states. Now, you’re saying we will hold elections across the entire country at the same time?” SP MP Dharmendra Yadav raised objections.
In response to the bill’s presentation, BJP and NDA allies, including Congress and TDP, have issued whips to their members. READ THIS :Tragic Accident in Raichur: Overturned Lorry Kills Three PWD Officials
