Mysuru: Former MP Pratap Simha has voiced his support for naming a road after Siddaramaiah, questioning why it should be an issue. He emphasized that Siddaramaiah, who has served as an MLA for 40 years, has significantly contributed to Mysuru’s development and deserves the honor.

The controversy erupted when the Mysuru City Corporation proposed renaming KRS Road as “Siddaramaiah Aarogya Road,” which drew opposition from some quarters. Addressing the criticism, Pratap Simha expressed his dissatisfaction with the objections.

Siddaramaiah’s Contributions to Mysuru

Highlighting the contributions of Siddaramaiah, Simha said:

  • Healthcare Infrastructure: Construction of the Jayadeva Hospital and a Super Specialty Hospital in Mysuru.
  • Urban Development: Initiating projects like the Rajpath development.

Simha argued that Siddaramaiah, a two-time Chief Minister with a clear majority, has been a transformative figure for Mysuru. “He is a proud son of Mysuru, and there is nothing wrong with naming a road after him. His contributions have left an indelible mark on the city,” he said.

Respecting Contributors Beyond Royalty

Simha pointed out that while Mysuru has honored the city’s royals extensively, it is equally important to recognize other contributors. “Would it have been possible to build the KRS Dam without an engineer like Sir M. Visvesvaraya? Could Bengaluru have received electricity without the efforts of Mirza Ismail? Great administrators and visionaries beyond the royal lineage deserve recognition too,” he remarked.

Appeal Against Political Narrow-Mindedness

Simha also urged people not to let political affiliations cloud decisions about recognizing achievements.
“Great leaders and contributors exist across all political parties. Opposition to naming a road after Siddaramaiah is akin to looking for faults where none exist,” he said.READ THIS: Pakistan Airstrike on Afghanistan: 15 Killed

Honoring Legacy and Achievements

Drawing a comparison with Bengaluru, Simha said, “Just as Bengaluru honors leaders beyond Kempegowda, Mysuru must also celebrate contributors beyond the Maharajas. This is about recognizing legacy, not party lines or small-minded politics.”
