Afghan Charge d’Affaires, Tahir Qadiry addressed on Sunday the decision of Indian government for giving emergency use approval for the Covid-19 vaccine, Covisheld developed by India’s Serum Institute of India.
Qadiry expressed his joy on Twitter by tweeting, “Good news for science and for India.”
Regarding India’s approval for the vaccine candidate, Adar Poonawala, Chief Executive Officer, Serum Institute of India revealed on Sunday about Covishield being safe, effective and set for roll-out in the upcoming few weeks.
Poonawala posted on Twitter, “Happy new year, everyone! All the risks @SerumInstIndia took with stock piling the vaccine have paid off. COVISHIELD, India’s first COVID-19 vaccine is approved, safe, effective and ready to roll out in the upcoming weeks.”
He further expressed his gratitude for the political leadership, includes Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan and Drugs Controller General of India (DCGI). He further also acknowledged the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation.
While addressing a media meeting, Viji Somani, DCGI said, “After adequate examination, CDSCO has decided to accept the recommendations of the Expert Committee and accordingly, vaccines of M/s Serum and M/s Bharat Biotech are being approved for restricted use in emergency situation and permission is being granted to M/s Cadila Healthcare for conduct of the Phase-III clinical trial.”
