Republic Television Editor, Arnab Goswami, was arrested from his Mumbai residence by the Alibaug Police on Wednesday morning, for having involvement in the death of Anvay Naik, an interior designer and his mother Kumud Naik, which happened in 2018.
A senior police personnel gave the confirmation regarding the arrest of Arnab Goswami. His arrest happens when already investigation in the TRP scam is on-going against him.
The suicide case traces back to 2018, when Anvay Naik and his mother Kumud Naik committed suicide in Alibaug in the month of May. On investigation, a suicide note was discovered which stated that Arnab Goswami along with Feroz Shaikh and Niteish Sarda had not done a payment worth Rs. 5.40 crore, which has led him to financial crisis.
Earlier, in 2018, the Alibaug police had registered a case of abetment to suicide. However, Raigad Police closed the case in 2019. Maharashtra home minister Anil Deshmukh, declared a fresh CID investigation for the case as Adnya Naik, daughter of Anvay Naik approached the police and complained regarding the improper investigation, “non-payment of dues from Arnab Goswami’s Republic”
The managing editor of Concorde Designs Private Limited, Anvay, had provided services for Republic TV. Kumud Naik was also a member in the Board of Directors of the company. The complaint against Arnab Goswami was filed by his wife Akshata Naik as the suicide note had his name, and along with others.
Republic TV denied all the allegations of non-payment and indicated it as “malicious campaign.” The channel also mentioned that all amounts due were settled by Republic TV to Concorde Designs.
