Bangalore University students and staff raise complaint against VC to House Panel

The visit of the House Committee for SC/ST Welfare on Wednesday to Bangalore University campus led to a flood of complaints being done against Vice-Chancellor Prof K R Venugopal.

The House Committee comprising of 18 members headed by MLA M P Kumaraswamy was on the university’s Jnanabharthi campus to convene a meeting for discussion about subjects related to the welfare of the SC/ST students. The committee was overboarded with the complaints and grievances put up by the students, teachers, non-teaching staff along with the Syndicate members.

Kumaraswamy revealed to media, “All of them filed complaints against the vice-chancellor… They alleged irregularities in appointments, promotions.”

A member from the House Committee revealed the students were blaming the Vice-Chancellor of allegedly threatening them if they raised the demands. Another member stated, “Even the varsity’s registrar (administration) has accused the V-C of misusing his powers and violating the norms in taking decisions.”

The members of the House Committee were in complete shock after reviewing the hostel conditions. Kumaraswamy said, “It’s in a pathetic condition. Even during the pandemic, seven students stayed in one room.” The bad conditions of the hostel lacking amenities and infrastructure along with hygiene has triggered the committee to issue instructions for the university authorities to have a hostel committee meeting.

The House Committee has also taken a call to discuss the compliant received at the university individually at a meeting held in Vidhan Soudha.
