Bangladesh delays border closure with India amid Covvid-19 situation

Bangladesh took the call of prolonging the period for which its borders will be closed considering the current Covid-19 situation in both Bangladesh and India, according to news agency ANI quoting Bangladeshi media. This comes at a time when the cases of Covid-19 gradually decline in the neighboring regions of the border area.

Earlier in April, Bangladesh has closed the borders, which was extended twice, on May 8 and subsequently May 29, considering the deadly second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic.

During a high-level inter-ministerial security meeting held on June 13, Bangladesh took the decision, which was declared by the country’s ministry of foreign affairs to Dhaka Tribute. The call was taken deliberating the surge of Covid-19 cases in the country, and reported the highest single-day death toll on Sunday. It has been noted that the Delta variant, identified in India is highly prevalent in Bangladesh.

Despite, borders are closed, residents of Bangladesh having a valid visa of 15 days or less will be permitted to return with the mandatory 14-day quarantine condition.
