With the onset of second wave of Covid-19, the already struggling aviation industry has been impacted severely. The domestic traffic has fallen continuously starting from April 1, 2021 as the pandemic has limited the travel plans of the masses for both business an leisure. Based on the post analysis report released by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), the Delhi Airport reported a decline by 29 percent, Mumbai Airport had a 30.9 per cent decline, and going further the Bengaluru Airport reported a 46.1% decline in Air Traffic Movement (ATM), which is after comparison on May 1 about the air traffic movement.

With the ongoing ban on international flights till June 30, the international air traffic has also significantly reduced. Currently, the only operational international flightsare under the Vande Bharat Mission and air bubble pacts.

In comparison to the data of 2019, the frequency of ATMs in Bengaluru has observed a 68 percent decline wherein it has dropped from 19,642 in 2019 to 6,340 in May 2021.

According to the analysis report, it is clear that Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport has observed a drop due to the lockdown enforced in April 2021, due to which the passenger traffic declined instantly, while on the other hand, the frequency of flight cancellations increased.

The Kempegowda International Airport observed the maximum number of flights operated from May 1 which was 310 and the least on May 24 when a count of 142 flights operated for the month of May.
