India’s biggest COVID Care Centre, Bangalore International Exhibition Centre (BIEC) is going to be shut down from September 15. The reason being BIEC does not receive any more patients.
BIEC had the facilities to cater to 10,100 beds, and drawn attention based on the government’s prior decision of renting beds and furniture at a higher price. Moving ahead, the government purchased the items after receiving enormous criticism.
BIEC facilitated serving for patients having mild symptoms of Covid – 19. But, post the government’s allowance for home isolation, the count of patients being admitted to BIEC has dropped drastically. The BBMP have confirmed the news stating that the decision was discussed with the chief minister after suggestions from Rajender Kumar Kataria who is the head of the Covid Care Task Force.
The furniture bought by the government for Covid care in BIEC will be given to the government and university hostels.
