Centre affirms bird flu cases for states of Rajasthan, MP, Himachal Pradesh & Kerala

The states of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala and Himachal Pradesh have been infected with Avian Influenza, generally recognized as bird flu, was confirmed by Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying on Wednesday.

The Ministry gave the confirmation post testing the samples at the Indian Council of Agricultural Research – National Institute of High Security Animal Diseases. The Ministry released an official statement about the bird flu being reported in crows in Mandasur, Indore and Malwa districts.

The statement read, “In Himachal Pradesh, the bird flu is reported in migratory birds in Mangalore, while in Kerala it is reported in poultry-duck in Kottayam and Allapuzha districts.”

The Ministry said an advisory was directed to the states of Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh on January 1, 2021 to curb the infection.

The Ministry revealed about a control room being setup in New Delhi to assess the present situation and take the necessary preventive measures.

The Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying said, “The measures suggested to the affected states to contain the disease and prevent further spread as per the action plan on Avian Influenza include strengthening the biosecurity of the poultry farms, disinfection of affected areas,  proper disposal of dead birds, timely collection and submission of samples for confirmation and further surveillance, intensification of general guidelines for the prevention of disease spread from affected birds to poultry and human.”
