The Costa Rican government confirmed the news on Friday about its agreement with the World Health Organization (WHO) for the COVAX facility vaccine programme and thus proceed to pre-order over one million doses of Coronavirus vaccine after its availability.
The number of pre-ordered vaccines account to only one-fifth of the total population of the country. President Carlos Alvarado officially stated, “This is necessary to boost the post-pandemic economy.”
Cost Rica has so far recorded over 70,000 infections and has a death toll of around 800 people. The country has to pay an initial $6.3 million to get access to the vaccines which adds up to 30 % of the mean price per dose of $10.55.
