Delhi Airport gets first consignment of Covishield vaccines transported from Pune

The first batch of Covid-19 vaccines arrives at the Delhi Airport transported from Pune on Tuesday morning via SpiceJet flight followed by an Air India flight which is scheduled for the later part of the day.

The SpiceJet flight SG8937 which was anticipated to arrive Delhi by 10.15 am having the vaccines consignment which will be received by officials representing Airport Authority of India, Health Ministry, Ministry of Civil Aviation, Delhi airport and Central Industrial Security Force Officers which will then be transferred to the alloted hospitals via GPS enabled trucks.

Preparations are all set at the cargo terminal of the Delhi Airport and the staff would be eager to receive the vaccines, which will processed to temperature controlled storage units revealed an official. The police had made the required arrangements for ensuring speedy transportation of the vaccines to the hospitals.

The consignment transported from Pune having Covishield vaccines has around 34 boxes and weighs 1088 kg, said Ajay Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, Spicejet. He said, “I am happy to share that SpiceJet has carried India’s first consignment of Covid-19 vaccines today [Tuesday]. We will be carrying multiple vaccine consignments to different Indian cities including Guwahati, Kolkata, Hyderabad, Bhubaneswar, Bengaluru, Patna and Vijayawada through the day today,”

Regarding the preparation of the SpiceJet, he said, “Today marks the beginning of a long and decisive phase in India’s fight against the pandemic and SpiceJet is proud to assist in the biggest vaccination drive in the history of mankind.”
