The Central Crime Branch (CCB), investigating the violence over a social media post has given the name of ex-mayor and sitting Congress corporator R Sampath Raj in the accused involved in the Bengaluru riots case, the police said on Tuesday.
A police investigating officer informed the PTI, “He has been named as one of the accused in the DJ halli and KG halli violence.”
The police officers had interrogated him for two times with Pulakeshinagar Congress Corporator Abdul Rakeeb Zakir for few hours, but not arrested him as of now. The reports still need to confirm the involvement of Zakir. Earlier, the police had detained Sampath’s personal assistant Arun Kumar for allegedly maintaining contact with the ring leaders involved in Bengaluru violence.
Alongside, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has an on-going investigation into the matter and has detained the major accused involved in the case. Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai had asserted that the internal issues in the Congress and along with the forthcoming BBMP elections triggered the violence in Pulakeshinagar.
Coutering Bommai’s statements, the state Congress chief DK Shivakumar had blamed the government with making attempts to ‘cover up’ their inefficiency to mitigate the violence triggered over misleading comments.
