Farmers unions take up the govt’s invite for dialogue on Dec 30

The Samyukt Kisan Morcha (SKM) which is a joint front of over 40 farmer organizations have written on Tuesday to the Ministry of Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare saying that they have accepted the Centre’s invite of having a dialogue scheduled for December 30. 

The letter addressed to Secretary, Agriculture Ministry, the framer unions have reinforced the four-point agenda for the round of talks which comprises of repealing the farm laws and a structure for guarantee on Minimum Support Price (MSP).

The agenda of the meeting as listed by the farmer unions stated, “Mechanisms to be adopted to make remunerative MSP recommended by the National Farmers Commission into a legally guaranteed entitlement for all farmers and all agriculture commodities. Amendments to be made and notified in the ‘Commission for the Air Quality Management in National Capital Region and Adjoining Areas Ordinance, 2020’ to exclude farmers from the penal provisions of the Ordinance.”

The SKM stated that the talks should be based on the agenda passed for reaching the logical solutions to relevant issues.

The Central Government has invited the protesting farmers for a round of talks on December 30 at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi. The farmers from different parts of the country have been protesting for over 30 days now along the borders of New Delhi to protests against the three contentious farm laws passed by the Centre.
