Former PM Dr. Manmohan Singh Passed Away at 92

Dr. Manmohan Singh, former Prime Minister of India, a distinguished economist, and a towering figure in Indian politics, passed away on Thursday at the age of 92.

He was admitted to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Delhi after his health deteriorated. Dr. Singh was brought to the hospital’s emergency department around 8 p.m., where doctors worked tirelessly to stabilize him. However, despite their best efforts, the nation lost one of its most respected leaders.

Dr. Singh, known as the architect of India’s economic liberalization, gained prominence as the Finance Minister in PV Narasimha Rao’s government (1991–1996). His groundbreaking reforms opened the Indian economy to global markets, setting the stage for its transformation into one of the world’s fastest-growing economies.

As Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014, he led India through several significant milestones, including the landmark Indo-US nuclear deal and a period of unprecedented economic growth. His calm demeanor, unshakable integrity, and intellectual brilliance earned him widespread admiration across political and social lines.

Dr. Singh is survived by his wife, Gursharan Kaur, and their three daughters. Details regarding his funeral arrangements are yet to be announced.

India mourns the loss of a visionary leader whose legacy of economic reforms and commitment to governance will continue to inspire generations.
