Govt plans to discuss the farm laws clause wise with the farmers again

As the government and farmer leaders have eight round of talks and discussion scheduled for Monday, in conversation if and when the farmers would be adamant on demanding to repeal the laws, the government would take it on to explain the farm laws ‘clause by clause’ as a part of the discussion.

According to the sources in the government, as the two demands of the farmer unions have risen amid the protests to repeal the laws and legalisation of Minimum Support Price (MSP) and their demands have been unmet, the Centre is planning to discuss the farm laws explaining each clause in detail, like it did initially, prior to the MSP issue. The exercise was conducted by the government to clearly understand the objection of the farmer against the three laws passed.

The sources revealed, “While the government is ready to work with farmers on the issue of MSP, it needs to ask farmers about their demand for the repeal of three farm laws. MSP will be relevant only when the government can discuss laws with farmers and convince them of these being in their well-being.”

The sources revealed the farmer unions also have difference in opinion. The source said, “There are few who believe if MSP is legalised, laws can be discussed. However, there are those who only talk of the repeal of these laws.”

Also, it has been revealed that government will be willing to work on MSP but the condition is the unions need to give up their demand for revoking the laws.

Farmers have been protesting for a while now along the borders of the New Delhi demanding repealing of the three farm laws – Farmers Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Act, 2020, Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement on Price Assurance and Farm Services Act, 2020, and the Essential Commodities (Amendment) Act, 2020.
