Greece signs International Solar Alliance headed by India

Greece joined the India led International Solar Alliance (ISA) and handed over the agreement to India on Saturday. The agreement was formalized during the visit of Extrernal Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to Greece.

Amid his visit, Jaishankar made a courtesy call on Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Prime Minister of Greeceb and had conducted bilateral ties along with his counterpart Nikos Dendias. Both sides had an exchange of views over bilateral relations, which will continue to expand rapidly, as per the joint statement of India and Greece.

Jaishankar tweeted, “Just concluded official talks with FM@NikosDendias. Was productive bilaterally and insightful on many regional and global issues. Agreed to step up the pace of engagement and work towards a strategic partnership.”

Amid his visit, Jaishankar also revealed the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in Athens scheduled on June 26. The statue will act as a symbol of strong friendship amid the countries. After the meeting between Jaishankar and Dendias, a statement said, “The Greek Foreign Minister signed and handed over the Agreement on the International Social Alliance (NSA) to the Indian side.”

Jaishankar gave a warm welcome to Athens in the family of ISA and both the countries agreed that the agreement will help the two countries deliberating the energy goals framed by the government to transform renewable energy as a significant part of the energy supply, as per the joint statement.

Both the countries also exchanged views on global and regional issues subjected to mutual interest with reference to new geo-political and geo-economic realities, covering the Indo-Pacific, according to MEA.
