Harsh Vardhan: India may commence Covid-19 vaccination in January

Union Health Minister, Harsh Vardhan declared on Sunday that India may supposedly commence the Covid-19 vaccination right in January 2021, further iterating on the safety and efficacy of the Covid-19 vaccine.

Harsh Vardhan said to ANI, ““I personally feel, may be in any week of January, we can be in a position to give first Covid-19 vaccine shot to people of India.”

Vardhan said that the government would not want to compromise with respect to the safety of the vaccine. He stated, “The Central government along with state governments has been making preparations at state, district and block levels for the past 4 months.”

The declaration comes some days after the country crossed the total caseload over 1 crore. Presently, India ranks second in the world following US regarding the Covid-19 cases in the world. Though, the United States began the vaccination earlier this week. As, the US Food and Drug Administration (US FDA) gave approval for emergency use authorization for the Pfizer BioNTech and Moderna Covid-19 vaccine candidates, which will a part of the vaccination drive in the US.

The Health Minister further added that with the top scientists and health professionals working day and night in India, the country may have the resources and capacity to vaccinate around 30 crore people in the next six to seven months.

Harsh Vardhan further highlighted that India’s recovery rate with 95.46 per cent is the highest in the world.

Presently, six vaccines are under the clinical trials at different stages in India, from which, four vaccines are being developed indigenously.
