The government had appointed a special 3 member team called Special Investigation Team (SIT) for investigation of the alleged rape of a 19 year-old Dalit girl in Hathras and their probe report was scheduled for submission on Wednesday.
However, the government has given SIT an extension of 10 days for presenting the report as per the reports.
According to the introductory report given by SIT, the Uttar Pradesh government has ordered suspension for Hathras SP and 4 other police officers due to their ‘handling’ of the case. Home secretary of Uttar Pradesh, Bhagwan Swaroop, who is heading the SIT has given the recommendation of conducting ‘lie-detector’ tests for everyone involved in the case inclusive of the family members of the victims.
The other two members of the SIT are Deputy Inspector General of Police Chandraprakash and IPS officer Poonam.
The incident which happened on September 14, when the girl was allegedly assaulted and gang-raped, has raised nationwide protests post after her death on September 29. The UP government made an attempt to resolve the matter by taking “corrective measures”.
The SIT conducted a site-visit for further investigation on Tuesday by scrutinizing the cremation spot of the victim. The state government has urged the Supreme Court to have a CBI monitored probe for the case.
