India’s drug regulator will be giving an approval on Friday to the Coronavirus vaccine candidate developed by Oxford University and AstraZeneca for emergency use authorization, according to the sources.
The decision will carve the way for the vaccine’s launch in India, which has the second highest cases of Covid-19 around the globe. Alongside, countries like Britain and Argentina have already given their approval for the vaccine candidate.
Two of the sources revealed that India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO), whose experts had a second meeting will also be giving approval to indigenously developed vaccine by Hyderabad based Bharat Biotech. One of the sources stated, “Both AstraZeneca and Bharat Biotech will get approval today. All preparations are on with today’s date in mind.”
Though, the sources were not certain about the prospects of Bharat Biotech’s vaccine candidate.
When approached, the CDSCO representative did not comment. The group will be having a meeting a day prior to nationwide trial run for vaccine delivery across the country.
SII mentioned that it is still waiting for the final approval before giving any confirmation.
