India and Pakistan have mutually decided to agree to stringently adhere to the ceasefire agreements along the Line of Control (LOC) and in several other sectors, as per a joint statement issued on Thursday.

The agreement over ceasefire was made effective starting from Wednesday midnight and was formalized in a meeting organised between the Director General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of India and Pakistan.

The DGMOs had a discussion regarding the set mechanism of hotline contact and also assessed the situation along the Line of Control and the several sectors with a free, frank and cordial atmosphere.

“In the interest of achieving mutually beneficial and sustainable peace along the borders, the two DGMOs agreed to address each other’s core issues and concerns which have propensity to disturb peace and lead to violence,” the joint statement stated.

The joint statement further added, “Both sides agreed for strict observance of all agreements, understandings and cease firing along the Line of Control and all other sectors with effect from midnight of February 24/25.”

They also emphasized on the already existing mechanisms of hotline contact and border flag meetings will be used for resolution of any forthcoming circumstances or misunderstanding, it added.
