In a long meeting session in Moscow on Thursday evening, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar and Chinese foreign Minister Wang Yi finally agreed on five-point course of action to resolve the four month long border disputes at Line of Actual Control(LAC).

India and China agreed that the current situation near the LAC was “not in the interest of either side”. So, according to the statement issued from the meeting, both Indian Army and Chinese PLA “should continue their dialogue, quickly disengage, maintain proper distance and ease tension.”

The next pointer was about both India and China to take guidance from the consensus of the respective Prime Minister on ‘developing India-China relations’ which also includes that the differences should not be allowed to become disputes.

The two nations will together continue abiding the existing agreements and protocols based on China-India boundary matters and maintain peace and tranquility in the LAC regions and refrain from any action which would heat-up the situations.

India and China will continue to have communication channelized by the Special Representatives and there will be continued meetings on Working Mechanism for Consultation and Coordination regarding the border matters.

As the present situation becomes better, India and China should accelerate their efforts to conclude new confidence-building measures which will aid in maintaining and enhancing peace and tranquility in the border areas.

The agreement between India and China would act as a relief too both sides and ease up the bitterness developed between the two nations. The border disputes, especially the Galwan valley face-off on June 15 had hit the India-China relations to the lowest with the death of 21 Indian soldiers.
