India hosted the sixth edition of the India-EU Cyber Dialogue on Monday, December 14, where the major issues of discussion were revolving around the several areas of cooperation in cyberspace which comprises of multilateral and regional cooperation and regional settings.
The Indian delegation was headed by Dr S Jankiraman, Joint Secretary Cyber Diplomacy Division, Ministry of External Affairs, alongside the EU delegation was headed by Joanneke Balfoort, Director Security and Defence, EEAS, as per the official statement released by Ministry of External Affairs (MEA).
The subjects of discussion were adhering to multilateral and regional cooperation on stability in cyberspace at UN platforms which include GGE, OEWG, or based on regional settings comprising critical points related to OSCE and ARF, EU Cyber Diplomacy tool box, cooperation pertaining to the evolving cases of cyber crime and accordingly capacity building, various contemporary issues and also regarding the cyber policies, internet governance, recently coming up cyber related technologies and various other subjects related to cyberspace.
MEA stated, “The two sides reaffirmed their commitment to an open, free, secure, stable and peaceful and accessible cyberspace, enabling economic growth and innovation. Views of both sides converged on many issues of cyberspace.”
Both the sides also came upon the mutual acceptance about the requirement to adhere to and follow the fundamental values and protocols of both societies in cyberspace and parameters involved in governance which includes rule of law, democratic values and fundamental freedoms.
It was further decided to organize the upcoming India-EU Cyber Dialogue in Brussels.
