India is eternally indebted to our soldiers, says President Kovind

President Ram Nath Kovind on the eve of Vijay Diwas, on Wednesday expressed his greetings and stated that the country is eternally indebted to the soldiers who sacrificed their lives for the country while fighting the India-Pakistan war of 1971.

Kovind took to Twitter to express himself, “On Vijay Diwas, let us recall the valour of our soldiers that affirmed our nation’s unwavering commitment to defend our sovereignty and protect human dignity. Their martyrdom in 1971 war had shown unparalleled grit & prowess of our forces. The nation is eternally indebted to them.”

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, earlier today, lit the ‘Swarnim Vijay Mashal’, which is right at the National War Memorial to commemorate the 150th anniversary of the 1971 India-Pakistan war.

At the National War Memorial, Modi paid respect and tributes to the fallen soldiers. Defence Minister Rajnath received Prime Minister Narendra Modi at the venue. Rajnath Singh further launched the logo of ‘Swarnim Vijay Varsh’.

A new nation had originated as an outcome of swift campaign followed by the Indian Army, which is also one of the swiftest campaigns in the history.

Post the defeat in 1971 war, General Amir Abdullah Khan Niazi, the Army Chief of Pakistan, made the move along with his 93,000 troops to surrender then to the allied forces, which comprised of Indian Army personnel.
