India provides relief material for the cyclone affected people in Fiji

India, in a move to help the cyclone impacted people in Fiji provided for relief supplies, which comprises of dignity kits having hygiene and sanitary items along with sleeping mats which were delivered on Monday. The relief supply was given to Inia Seruiratu, Minister of Defence and Disaster Management.

In a tweet, India in Fiji posted, “Relief supplies from India were handed over by the AHC Suva to Minister for Defence and Disaster Management, Hon, @ISeruiratu for supporting the @FijianGovt’s recovery efforts after #TCYasa. India providing humanitarian assistance and disaster relief in India-Pacific #IPOI.”

After the delivery of relief supplies, the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development, Fiji thanked India for the assistance on humanitarian grounds for the cyclone impacted families. The Ministry expressed his gratitude saying, “Dhanyavaad to the people of India! Today, @MRMDFiji Minister Hon. @ISeruiratu received a donation of humanitarian supplies from the @HCI_Suva. The supplies include Dignity Kits for both men and women and sleeping mats to be distributed to the affected communities in V/Levu.”

Earlier, on January 2 India got the first consignment of relief supplies delivered to Fiji, revealed the Ministry of External Affairs. The Ministry said more than 6 tons of relief packages were put together as soon as possible by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and were transported by Air India and Fiji Airways through Sydney, Australia.

The Ministry iterated that India has firmly supported Fiji amid the crisis and devastation triggered by natural disasters like Tropical Cyclone Winstoin in 2016. The Ministry further added, “The relief material sent now in the wake of Tropical Cyclone Yasa highlights India’s commitment to providing Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) support to Friendly Foreign Countries as a first responder.”
