India sent another shipment of 1 million Made-In-India COVID-19 vaccines

One million ‘Made-in-India’ Covid-19 vaccines have been shipped to Nepal on Sunday. The second shipment of the AstraZeneca vaccine, which is made by Serum Institute of India (SII) with the name Covishield has reached the Tribhuvan International Airport, Kathmandu on Sunday afternoon.

Air India’s New Delhi-Kathmandu 1:30 pm flight was the carrier for the two batches of two million doses. The vaccine will be processed to the cold storage unit in Teku, as reported by The Himalayan Times.

The batch of vaccines will be used for administering the vaccines of people above 60 years of age, which comprises of 8.73 per cent of the Nepal’s population, for the vaccination drive that will commence on March 7. A count of 2,652,258 is the population for the elderly people above the age group of 60 years, as per the data given by the Nepali Ministry of Health and Population.

The remnant doses of the vaccine will be collected as per the agreement formalized with the vaccine producer SII and the time plan presented by the Department of Health Service, revealed the MoHP.

Earlier, on January 15, the Government of Nepal had given the approval for usage of Covishield which has been developed by SII for emergency use. Nepal had commenced with national vaccination drive post procuring one million Covishield vaccines from the Indian government earlier in 2021.
