Indian Railways have completed solarization of 960 railway stations, plans Net Zero Carbon Emission Railway till 2030

New Delhi: Piyush Goyal, the Union Minister of Railways, tweeted on Monday that Indian Railways have solarised 960 railway stations and is moving closer to become a Net Zero Carbon Emission Railway by 2030. “In order to achieve its objective of becoming 100 % self-sustainable for all it’s power needs and also to contribute to national solar power goals, Indian Railways have solarised more than 960 stations till date” stated the Ministry of Railways.

Some of the stations where the Railways have completed the solar power installations include Varanasi, New Delhi, Old Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Howrah, Jaipur and Secunderabad. As per the information given by the Ministry of Railways, for 198 MW solar rooftop capacity, order has been placed to execute for 550 stations.Indian Railways have also set up a plan to install solar power plants for 20 GW capacity by 2030 through utilization of vacant land. Further, Indian Railways is also set to complete 100 % electrification by 2023 and make the use of solar energy for traction power requirement and develop into,“Green mode of transportation”
