City markets are reopening after lock-down of 5 months

The city markets are gearing up with preparations and necessary precautions to reopen after a period of 5 months lockdown induced by Coronavirus. The shop vendors at Kalasipalayam and KR Markets were noticed to cleaning and sanitizing their shops on Monday. The KR Market comprises of more than 2,000 shops ranging from sales of fruits, flowers, vegetables, groceries and meat. The vendors are eagerly waiting for reopening of the markets to cover up the financial losses occurred during the last 5 months.

Initiatives of BBMP to ensure safety

The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) staff members had cleaned and sanitized the area in the markets and also crossed the social distancing marks to take the necessary precaution measures. The BBMP chief stated that to ensure the safety of the masses 15 marshals would be on duty to constantly assess whether the precautions are followed or not. Also, a fireproofing system is installed worth ₹ 3 crore for the same. The President of KR Market Vendor’s Association, Diwakar has written to Palike Commissioner for requesting to cancel the rent of the shops for the forthcoming year as a period of 5 months lockdown has incurred losses to the vendors.
